With a name like Vivarium (Vivarium streaming) for a horror film, it leads one to think that the sense of claustrophobia and the atmosphere will be its most lethal weapons and this is exactly what this film proposes.

A couple enters the office of a real estate agent interested in purchasing a home. Given the insistence of the strange agent, the couple decides to go see the urbanization that he proposes to them to live. After seeing the unit and ready to leave they discover that the agent disappeared and now they are trapped in this suburban maze that, instead of being the urbanization of their dreams, turns into a nightmare.

Vivarium (2019)

Unable to escape the place, Tom and Gemma begin to inhabit one of the units, where boxes with supplies begin to appear and even a newborn baby that they must now take care of. “Vivarium” is clearly a metaphor for the horror of everyday suburban life, where life becomes repetitive and monotonous to the point of despair. The responsibility of raising a child for whom they have no affinity and whose bizarre behavior becomes insufferable affects their mood and relationship, again tugging at the metaphor for the horrors of suburban life.

Vivarium mixes science fiction and suspense with the horror of everyday life in the suburb where monotony and responsibilities threaten individual psychology and couple relationships. The great performances of its protagonists and the careful aesthetics that its metaphor always represent are its best resource, but the film is weighed down when the monotony it represents percolates in its development and despairs the viewer waiting for some event that moves the foundations of the plot. and put it in motion. Those who enjoy strange plots and slow developments under an artistic lens will enjoy “Vivarium”, but it will require patience from those looking for something with a faster pace. (From Mvie Club)
